The Department of Physics and Astronomy is the second largest at Uppsala University with more than 250 employees and 10 different divisions. 

The department of Physics and Astronomy is situated at Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala. The Department was formed in January 2010 by merging the former Department of Physics and Astronomy with the Department of Physics and Materials Science.

Two Nobel Prizes in Physics were awarded the Department in the field to Manne and Kai Siegbahn.
