Researcher position for one year in theoretical materials design at Uppsala University, Sweden, Start: May 2018
The focus of this project is on the identification and characterization of new high performance permanent magnets by computational design. The project is embedded in a bigger European network dedicated to identify new candidate phases for rare earth lean permanent magnets by materials simulation on different scales. The research of the subproject focusses on the ab initio simulation and the analysis of all kinds of magnetic properties in the framework of density functional theory. The project will be closely interconnected with other theoretical and experimental groups in Europe and at Uppsala University and it is expected that the researcher actively participates in these collaborations. The researcher position is located in the Division of Materials Theory at Uppsala University (http://www.physics.uu.se/research/materials-theory/. Uppsala is the 4th biggest city in Sweden and lies only 70 km northeast from Stockholm.
Profile: The applicant is expected to have solid knowledge in quantum mechanics, solid state physics, and materials science (preferably with focus on magnetism). A Phd in physics, chemistry or materials science is recommended. Furthermore, the candidate should be familiar with ab initio quantum mechanical methods and codes such as VASP and all-electron codes like SPRKKR. The ability to work in a team and good communication skills are expected.
Application documents: CV, short motivation letter (max. 1 page), publication list, doctoral certificate, 2 references (Names and contact details)
