Neutron and X-Ray Scattering - Activity

The activity of NeXS falls in the following areas:

  • Provide teaching and seminars in scattering methods;
  • Co-operate in seeking support and in the operation of neutron facilities;
  • Maintain and enhance the role of Uppsala University as a leading centre in neutron scattering by promoting collaboration in research both internally and externally with both established methods and new techniques.
  • Outreach includes active involvement in maintenance of the web portal for small-angle scattering and other canSAS international work on standards etc.

Advanced use of scattering techniques requires both skilled personnel and access to facilities, many of which are not available in home laboratories but are based at large international facilities.

Research is interdisciplinary and transcends the the usual subject boundaries. Research work tackles problems of health, environment and energy as well as basic problems in physics, chemistry and materials science. As an example two recent studies related to environmental and health problems have attracted conciderable interest: ozone damage of molecules in lungs and water purification with extracts of seeds from Moringa trees
