Before the discovery of topological insulators, much efforts have been made searching for non-trivial topological phases in superconductors.
Now such topological phases are dubbed topological superconductors, and their realization in materials has been receiving increasing attention in a variety of research fields in physics. In particular, topological superconductors may host Majorana fermions which may provide topologically protected non-Abelian qubits.
I will review topological superconductors and outline my work on realization of Majorana fermions in condensed matter physics, with an emphasis on some recent results.
About the speaker:
Masatoshi Sato is a Professor at the Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics at Kyoto University. He is an internationally renowned expert in topological phases of matter, in particular exotic forms of superconductivity, where his work on non-centrosymmetric superconductors has been of fundamental importance.
