Seminarium: What type of stars are the progenitors of water fountain nebulae?

Water fountains (WFs) are Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) and post-AGB objects with fast (vexp >100 km/s) collimated outflows traced by water masers and carbon monoxide emission. The study of these objects is important because they provide crucial information to understand the launch and collimation mechanisms of jets in evolved stars. However, since the central stars of these objects are enshrouded by the material of the circumstellar envelope (CSE), the identity of their progenitors remains unknown. In addition, given that these object share many observational similarities with young stellar objects, the volutionary status of some of them has not been unambiguously determined. In this talk I will present recent results from our WAter Fountains Flow Line Emission Survey (WAFFLES) carried out with ALMA aiming to clearly identify the evolutionary status of WFs and to derive the initial mass of their stellar progenitors.
