IceCube is a neutrino telescope constructed to study, among other things, matter around black holes and active galaxies, but can also be viewed as a huge particle detector. Carlos de los Heros has worked with IceCube since 1997, when he started as a postdoc and worked with AMANDA which was the prototype for IceCube.

Within IceCube he has specialised on the search after dark matter and other until now unknown particles, for example magnetic monopoles.

“As group leader of IceCube I am responsible for coordinating analyses related to the search for dark matter and new particles and for coordinating the publishing of results and that they are presented on various conferences”, says Carlos de los Heros, Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Carlos de los Heros will have the mission until the end of 2023 and has already in the past held the same position between the years 2008 and 2016. The collaboration consists of more than 300 researches from 14 countries who specialise in analysing detector data from IceCube in six different working groups.

The other working groups within IceCube are Neutrino Oscillations, Cosmic Rays, Diffuse neutrino flux, Supernova, and Neutrino Sources.
