2021-02-15
Every year, the Rudbeck Medal is awarded “for extraordinarily prominent achievements in science, to be conferred primarily for such accomplishments or findings attained at Uppsala University”. In 2020, Professor Olle Eriksson was awarded the Medal for his research, with the following motivation:
Olle Eriksson is a professor of theoretical magnetism at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Science and Technology. He receives the award for tackling one of the greatest unsolved problems in modern physics, understanding and predicting how electrons move in complex materials, including in high-temperature superconductors. This has wide areas of application ranging from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) cameras to wind power.
“I was surprised and very happy when I found out that I had been awarded the Rudbeck Medal. There are many talented researchers who have been awarded the medal and I am honored to now be one of them”, says Olle Eriksson, professor of theoretical magnetism at the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
The vice-chancellor appoints those who are awarded the medal in consultation with those responsible for the various fields of science.
