About the Division of High Energy Physics
We study the smallest building blocks of nature and their interactions using sophisticated experiments such as the ATLAS detector at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider in Geneva or the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, a massive neutrino telescope built deep in to the ice cap of the South Pole. To test and interpret experimental and observational results we also develop new theoretical models both within and beyond the Standard Model.
In connection to this and to prepare for the advance of our research further into the uncharted regions of nature, we take part in the pioneering development of future detectors and accelerators such as CLIC, the world’s highest energy linear collider. We are also one of the leaders in the Nordic countries in developing Grid Computing, an international cluster of supercomputers that provide computing power needed by large scale experiments around the world.
