DiffMAX combined with Electron Spectroscopies

About the workshop

Background: The DiffMAX beam line is on the roadmap for experiments at MAX IV. Currently the beam line design allows for diffraction and scattering experiments in the photon energy range 10 – 45 keV. The undulator design also yield X-rays in the tender X-ray range (between 3 and 7 keV) – here the opportunity for adding electron spectroscopies to the experiment which would enable determination of both geometric and electronic structure in the same setup.

Purpose of the meeting: We want to gather scientists interested in material science with X-rays using diffraction methods or spectroscopic methods (or both) to 1) see examples of XRD/PES combinations presented by invited speakers and 2) discuss how we can use the combination of techniques to do new science at the proposed DiffMAX beamline.

Where and when: At the Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala on the 22nd and 23rd of March 2017 (week 12).

Who organizes the conference? You are cordially invited to participate by Håkan Rensmo (UU), Andreas Lindblad (UU), Olle Björneholm (UU), Erik Lewin (UU), Ute Cappel (UU) and Olivier Balmes (MAX IV).

Audience: Everyone with an interest in combining diffraction and electron spectroscopic methods for doing material science at the MAX IV synchrotron.

Aims and goals: By gathering scientists interested in material chemistry and physics and discuss how the mentioned techniques can complement each other we will produce components to a scientific case which can be used to pursue this concept further.
